GOV: Healthcare
“What role, if any, should the United States Government assume in the realm of public healthcare?”
In this unit we will be examining Bitter Pill by Steven Brill published in TIME Magazine. We will also be examining the facts about the Affordable Care Act (ACA) better known as Obamacare, evaluating the pros and cons objectively, and discussing whether or not the US Constitution permits, recommends, or dismisses the federal government’s involvement in the healthcare system.
BITTER PILL – Steven Brill
From: TIME Magazine Feb. 2013

Things to consider:
How are different people (elderly, poor, wealthy, business owners, unemployed, families, singles, etc.) affected differently by healthcare policies?
Should the wealthy help cover healthcare costs for those in need?
What are the benefits of a healthy country?
Are tax dollars well spent if they pay for keeping people in the workforce?
